We all love candles, there's just something about that dancing flame that relaxes and soothes the most jangled nerves, but a flame can quickly become angry and out of control (much like a toddler) if it's left to it's on devices. We thought we would share some tips with you to keep you burning happy and safe.

1. Always burn at least 12 inches away from anything that will catch fire.

2. Burn candles, both jars and pillars only on a sturdy uncluttered surface.

3. Keep your wicks trimmed to 1/4 of an inch and centered. This is the single most important thing to do for safety.

4. Stop burning your jar candles when there is 1/2 inch of wax left in the bottom. Wax amount is less and it's easier for the melt pool to overheat and flash. To get the rest of the goodness from your candles use a candle warmer, just set the unlit jar on it and you're once again enjoying that wonderful aroma with no flame.

5. Remember those toddlers? Keep all your candles and melts away from children and pets. Both are curious and while they don't mean to tip over a burning candle or hot wax it happens so keep them out of their reach and everyone is happy.

6. Never Never Never burn a candle out of your eyesight. Lots of people love to place a burning votive in a bathroom and walk away. Any candle can flash so if you can't see it blow it out.

7. People with oxygen love candles too and they should be able to enjoy the wonderful aromas we all do, however, oxygen is highly flammable so no open flame candles, jars or pillars. Candle melts are the perfect solution, you get the fantastic smell without the flame.

8. Be sure to keep matches and lighters out of the reach of children, they see mom or dad light a candle and they want to give it a try too. So keep the little ones safe.

9. Never lean or reach over a burning candle, and yes I have caught myself doing this very thing. You're not thinking just reaching for something that's right there. Luckily I've never set my hair or clothes on fire but it can and does happen. Oh and keep your hair back when you lean over to light a candle too.

10. Candles are great for adding that special touch to a romantic evening but be sure to blow them out before you go to sleep.

11. Use candle holders that are sturdy and won't tip over easily and have no flammable parts to them.

12. Flameless Candle melts are easy, inexpensive, smell great and no flame makes them a perfect safety solution but make sure your electric warmer is in good shape with no frayed wires and is in a safe location so the hot wax doesn't spill.

Candles are beautiful and the flames are small but it can quickly become a raging inferno that destroys your home, your loved ones ,your pets and even you. Please respect the flame burn safe and smart.
